GB No. 12, winter 1994
The North Podlasian Society for Bird Protection (PTOP) was founded in Białowieża in 1985. PTOP is active in the North Podlasian Lowland (North-East Poland). Our aims are:
The members of PTOP are participating in both national and international ornithological projects, programmes, and free excursions to habitats for the inhabitants of Białystok.
Most important for us is active protection of wetlands. Therefore we are looking at methods new to Poland -- creating PTOP Nature Reserves through buying and renting land. These will be the first nature reserves in Poland owned by a social, non-governmental organization. In our campaigns (e.g. to save the Narew marshes) we work in cooperation with other Polish and international organisations with similar aims.
