NZS

Niezależne Zrzeszenie Studentów (Independent Students' Association) was established in September 1980 and is at present the largest independent student organization in Poland, with 90 chapters at Polish universities and a total of 20,000 members. NZS is totally independent from any university governing body or state administration. The main objectives of NZS are:

• protection of students' interests and securing the fulfillment of their cultural, scientific and existential needs;
• defense of human and civil rights;
• participation in modeling and auto-\A nomy of science and culture.

NZS serves as UNEP's (United Na- tions Environmental Programme) Youth Focal Point on environment for Eastern Europe.
