(1986-60 minutes) $20.00.

NUCLEAR ISSUES

The Nuclear Dream. This examination of the failed promise of nuclear power explains why (contrary to nuclear industry claims) nuclear power is not the solution to our energy crisis or to global warming. Produced by Greenpeace UK, The Nuclear Dream provides an international perspective on the issue, documents the tragic legacy of the Chernobyl disaster, and offers positive solutions for a nuclear-free future. (1991-17 minutes) $15.00.

Troubled Waters.

This video explains the unique dangers posed by nuclear weapons at sea. Alarming statistics about naval nuclear weapons at sea threatens life on this planet. (1989-11 minutes) $15.00.

Breaking the Nuclear Chain.

Desperate Measures.

A documentary of Greenpeace's efforts to halt nuclear waste dumping in the Atlantic Ocean by Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. TOXICS ISSUES

We All Live Downstream. This is a journey down the Mississippi River with the Greenpeace Research ship Beluga, exploring the effects of toxic pollution on the country's most historic river. It provides an overview of the sources of toxic pollution in our nation's waterways and explains how the US environmental protection system permits this dumping. Concerned citizens who have seen firsthand the effects of the pollution inflicted upon their communities are fighting back in an effort to save the Mississippi and themselves. Distributed with a Citizen's Action Guide. Music by Nancy Griffith and blues musician John Jackson. Awards: CINE Golden Eagle, New York Film Expo Juror's Award, Columbus Film and Video Festival Bronze Award (1990-50 minutes) $30.00.

Planet Chlorine. In this animated short video, friendly aliens from outer space come to Earth through the hole in the ozone layer, but are disturbed to find chlorine destroying Earth's air, land, and water. Their message, “chlorine kills - without it we can live,” is heeded and Earth becomes a cleaner, safer place. (1993-3 minutes) $10.00.

Why All Landfills Leak. In this video taped lecture, Dr. Peter Montague of the Environmental Research Foundation explains in detail everything you need to know about landfills: how they are supposed to work, why they don’t work, and how toxic waste van leak into the soil and groundwater of your community. (1991-35 minutes) $10.00.

No Time To Waste. This documentary portrays the strength and diversity of the grassroots movement against toxic waste. It examines the effect of toxic waste sites on communities throughout the American West including the Navajo reservation in Dilcon, Arizona. Though the video focuses on western communities, it reflects the anger and frustration of citizens throughout the country who are plagued by toxics-related health problems and are unable to obtain adequate state or federal assistance. Award: CINE Golden Eagle (1989-30 minutes) $20.00.

The Rush To Burn. Every year American industry produces over $25 billion pounds of hazardous waste. Rather than reducing the amount of waste they generate, industries promote incineration as an ideal method of disposal. The Rush To Burn shows that incineration is not safe and that the government does not adequately regulate the process. The film also tells the stories of citizens who have discovered the dangers of these incinerators and are fighting to stop them. Hundreds of grassroots groups have used this tape in successful campaigns to defeat the siting of incinerators. (1989-35 minutes) $20.00.

Incineration Under Fire. Opposition to incineration unites community activists from the US with thousands of people across Europe. Featuring dramatic home video of a family escaping the poisonous emissions from an explosion at a neighboring incinerator, this portrayal of three European communities proves that the dangers of burning toxic waste are frighteningly real and universal. (1991-30 minutes) $20.00.

TOXIC TRADE

Wasting the World. The Greenpeace Toxic Trade Campaign produced this video which explains how the Basel Convention and other regulatory mechanisms on the international trade in wastes continue to legalize toxic terrorism. Greenpeace campaigners and photographers visit some of the most polluted regions of the world and present hard evidence of environmental devastation caused by the “recycling” of western wastes. The investigators visit waste importing facilities in Romania, Slovenia, Indonesia, and Mexico, and present evidence of environmental devastation from waste imports in many other places around the world. (1992-13 minutes) $19.95.

How Green Is the Valley. In Natal, South Africa, in the lush “valley of a thousand hills,” the Umgeni River is being polluted by toxic waste from the world's largest mercury reprocessing plant. Children swim and play in a river contaminated by mercury at a level 1.5 million times the World Health Organization limit, according to samples taken by Greenpeace researchers. Some of the contamination can be traced to the US and European companies that shipped heir waste here between 1981 and 1992. The South African government, eager to gain foreign investment, encourages the trade which allows foreign companies to rid themselves of unwanted waste, exploit cheap labor from a disenfranchised and voiceless people, and contaminate their land and water. (1990-15 minutes) $15.00.

Waste Trade In Poland. When Poland opened its borders to Western investment and trade, it did not expect trade in hazardous waste. According to the Polish Environmental Department, 46,000 tons of foreign industrial waste entered the country in just two years. This video tells the story of an outraged Polish community that destroyed a local incinerator that was burning foreign waste. (1990-16 minutes) $15.00.
